Resources for Future Students

I am a....

Pre-career Student: A student who enters the MPA (Master in Public Administration) program without two years of professional public management experience.  Learn more about the application requirements and deadlines for Pre-career Students.

Mid-career Student: A student who has at least two years of professional public management experience in government or a nonprofit agency.  Learn more about becoming a Mid-career Student.

Graduate Certificate in Public Management (GCPM) Student: These students are classified by the University as "Students-at-Large" completing fifteen hours of course work toward a certificate in public management.  GCPM information is here.

International Student: International students who apply for the MPA program must have a US government scholarship or a scholarship from their government of origin OR must attend a university which has a Memorandum of Understanding with NIU.  International Student information is available here.

Students come from diverse backgrounds and undergraduate programs. Successful applicants have:

  • a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • completed a U.S. Government course
  • completed a Finite Math course (usually Basic Statistics)
  • taken the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)
